Angesichts der andauernden Titelblätter und Schlagzeilen zum Thema Agrarboom und steigender Lebensmittelpreise sind die Börsenbriefe (in den USA) nicht sonderlich positiv zum Gold eingestellt. Im Gegenteil: Der HGNSI liegt sogar bei minus 17,2.

Die von Hulbert verfolgten Börsenbriefe empfehlen also einen negativen Teil seines Portfolios in Gold zu investieren, sprich diesen Markt zu shorten.

Consider the latest readings of the Hulbert Gold Newsletter Sentiment Index (HGNSI), which reflects the average recommended gold market exposure among a subset of gold timing newsletters tracked by the Hulbert Financial Digest. As of Wednesday night, the HGNSI stood at minus 17.2%. This negative number meant that the client of the average gold timing newsletter was being advised to allocate 17.2% of his gold portfolio to being short — an aggressive bet that the gold market will decline.

The HGNSI’s all-time low level is minus 31.3%, not that much lower than where it stands currently. In fact, the HGNSI has been lower than where it is now just 2% of the time over the past decade.
That’s incredible, given that gold bullion is only about 7% off its all-time high. Given how pessimistic the average gold timer is, you’d have thought gold has been in a long-term bear market.
