Bei den 3-Monats-Treasury-Bills wurden gestern tatsächlich negative Zinsen gehandelt: Die Investoren waren zeitweise bereit, “für die Möglichkeit, ihr Cash in Schatzwechsel zu parken”, auch noch zu bezahlen…
Für das Privileg, sozusagen…
Investors were so desperate to put their cash into government notes that they were willing to pay a penalty for the privilege: three-month notes traded at a negative yield, meaning that investors will receive about 99 cents on the dollar in return after the note matures. The news sends a sobering signal: in this environment, losing only a small amount of money on an investment is tantamount to coming out ahead.

Und noch ein Nebensatz — die Nachfrage nach den de facto Null-Zinsen-Papieren war so groß, dass die Regierung gleich viermal mehr davon hätte verkaufen können (die Auktion hat 30 Mrd. USD eingefahrnen):
Investors accepted the zero percent rate in the government’s auction Tuesday of $30 billion worth of short-term securities that mature in four weeks. Demand was so great even for no return that the government could have sold four times as much.
